MOOSE PADDLE. Sure, he couldn’t stay in there forever. But did they really have to do that with the ropes and his antlers? Rude.

OTTERLY CUTE VALENTINES. No, but seriously, nothing says “you’re my favorite otter” like freezing a handful of sardines into a heart-shaped popsicle and tossing it in the pool.

CAT AND BABY BEAR. Another adorable bear cub video via the Awl. Not to be repetitive, but this one is really something. And just when you think the cat is down for the count, think again!

This is a grizzly bear cub in a bucket. Well, partway in a bucket. But it really wants to be all the way in the bucket. That is, until it would rather eat an elbow.

A troubling turn of events for our equine friends: ranchers and horse owners at this week’s Summit of the Horse say we should sell and eat horse meat, reports the AP.
“The Chinese are chomping at the bit to buy our horses,” said former U.S. Rep Charlie Stenholm (D-Texas) at the conference in Vegas. “The Russians are chomping at the bit to buy our horses. Why can’t we sell it to them?”
The U.S. banned the slaughter of horses in 2007, after activists protested the way the animals were treated. But, horse connossieurs point out, horse meat is safely consumed in dozens of countries.
Further, Horse processing proponents say the animals are a drain on the system, as it costs some $37 million annually to feed and house horses rounded up and confined in corrals. But others say it is over-breeding, not the slaughter ban, that has caused horse overpopulation.

A GROUNDBREAKING PIECE OF RESEARCH. Watch Maru take on boxes of all sizes. Will he give up? Never.

Meet Momo, Japan’s first pint-size police dog. The Chihuahua beat out more traditional K9 operatives in a test to locate a missing person in under 5 minutes. Her handlers think she’ll come in handy during earthquake-related search-and-rescues because her diminutive stature allows her to fit where other dogs cannot.

A smug-looking baby dolphin enters its new pool at a Uruguay aquarium (where it makes the acquaintance of a penguin, which can be seen here).

The World’s Largest Indoor Pet. ”Needless to say, it’s been pretty interesting being married to a ‘buffalo whisperer.’ They bonded like nothing I’ve ever seen before. … Jim uses consistent and patient handling, and that you have to use with a buffalo. it’s more than a project; it’s part of our lifestyle.” – Linda Sautner to CNN about her husband, Jim and his 1,500-pound pet, Bailey, Jr.
