Beast Blog apologizes for our absence. We have been working on a draft of a novel that includes several animal characters. In the meantime, we give you this picture of the only truly contented creature in the White House.

PETA mad at White House fly murder

PETA has taken issue with President Obama’s swatting of a fly during an interview with CNBC Wednesday (shocking footage above).

The outspoken and increasingly idiotic animal rights group says that they support “brushing flies away rather than killing them” and that they were “disappointed” by the White House fly squashing.

They sent the President something called Katcha Bug, a device which humanely traps insects so that they can be carried outside to the White House lawn and gently released into nature.

Even though the kids are supposed to do a lot of the work, I’m still up at 5:15 a.m. taking my dog out. So for everyone who has a child asking for a puppy – you have to want the dog.

As I do. I love my Bo.

The First Pooch is sitting pretty

This morning’s Washington Post has the scoop on White House dog Bo’s lavish lifestyle. Not only has Milk-Bone offered the Portuguese water dog a lifetime of biscuits, but the Ritz-Carlton has volunteered to provide a doghouse. The hotel commissioned interior designer Skip Sroka to create a replica of the White House in wood and canvas etched with black ink. Inside, the pillowy floor is upholstered in cobalt-blue silk embroidered with golden eagles.

CBS news calls the secretive selection of Bo “Washington’s biggest mystery since Watergate” (video HERE) and fills in all the details for anyone who missed them. In short: Bo is hypoallergenic, six months old, a gift from Ted Kennedy (who owns Bo’s brother) and the name “Bo” is taken from Malia and Sasha’s cousin’s cat, and also a reference to Michelle Obama’s father, who was nicknamed “Diddley” after the singer Bo Diddley.
