A Golden Retriever in Canada saved her 11-year-old master from a cougar attack.
Young Austin Forman was gathering wood behind his house in Boston Bar, British Columbia, when the wild cat leapt out of the darkness.
At the same time, his faithful dog, Angel, sprang to his defense.
“The dog obviously knew something was up because she ran towards me just at the right time and the cougar ended up getting her instead,” Forman told CTV (clip below).
Soon the two animals were locked in a death match, with Angel’s head in the cat’s jaws. Austin’s mother called the police and mountie Chad Gravelle arrived at the scene to shoot the cougar dead.
Forman’s cousin pried Angel from the cat’s grasp and, he told CTV, she “sprang back to life.” The first thing she did was check on Forman.

BEAR FIGHTS TERROR. According to a report in the Daily Mirror, a Himalayan black bear may have killed two leaders of a militant separatist group in India’s Kashmir region. The men, carrying AK-47s, had taken refuge in the bear’s den to prepare their supper. Officials say that, next to the men’s bodies, they found an uneaten batch of pudding.

A father and son outside London were shocked when they received the following stern warning from their local post office:
Dear Sir or Madam,
Following my visit to your residence on the 8th of June 2009, I am writing to let you know that on the 6th of June our postman was attacked by your animal in your premises while delivering mail.
Animal attacks are a major cause of injury to Royal Mail staff and so I am writing to seek your co-operation in preventing a repeat of this unfortunate incident.
I must advise you that, if any further incidents of this nature are allowed to take place, I shall have no alternative other than to consider suspending the delivery of mail to your home.
Seems straightforward, except that the only animal on the premises is Illy, a six-month-old kitten. (That’s the bloodthirsty beast above.)
Kenneth Ridge, 65, who lives with his son Bradley, 30, tells the Daily Mail, “We weren’t here, but it seems some mail was put through the letterbox and the postwoman’s hand was scratched. … Illy is a kitten, she’s very small and friendly and was just playing.”

Bernhard Blaszkiewitz, 55, was feeding Pedro walnuts as he showed a visitor round the zoo Monday when the ape grabbed his hand and bit off his right index finger.

A 47-year-old man in Okeechobee, Florida, is recovering after an alligator attack.
Antonio Prado was net fishing in three feet of water on Lake Okeechobee on Memorial Day when he was dragged underwater by an 11-foot-long alligator, which chewed up his arm and chest.
According to reports, the animal only released Prado when the man’s 24-year-old son threw a pair of pliers at it.
The attack took place only 100 feet away from where teenager Kasey Edwards lost an arm to a 10-foot gator last June.

Two Russian tourists sought treatment for horrible porcupine-inflicted injuries after they tried to get frisky with one of the spiny beasts on a dare from drunk friends.
Anton, 32, and Evgeny, 30, of St. Petersburg, were enjoying a visit to sunny Florida when, during an evening of drinking with pals, they came across an antiquated state law that forbids sex with porcupines.
“We’re here to have as much fun as we can,” Anton reportedly remarked, and the boys and their party trekked off into the Floridian wilds in search of a victim.
Unfortunate for Anton and Evgeny, they found one. Russia’s Tvoy Den tabloid doesn’t go into the exact details of the injuries, but the Russia Today blog says, “the damage caused by the porcupine fighting for its honor was horrific. Both Anton and Evgeny had severe inflammation and nearly lost their private parts.”

To put some suspense in your lazy Sunday, here’s newly-edited footage of a 2004 tiger attack in Assam, India. Rangers riding elephants were tracking a tigress one May morning, armed with tranquilizer guns. They took a shot, missed, and the animal disappeared into the tall grass, only to resurface a moment later (see above).
Footage can’t be embedded, but you’ll find the clip on trutv.com HERE. Don’t worry, it’s G-rated. (It’s no worse than anything Scar does in The Lion King.)
