A “herd of hungry goats” has been called in to mow the grass at the Vanderbilt Mansion because they are “good on slopes.” Also, they have adorable floppy ears. (Important note: fast forward to 2:00 to see a goat try to eat the pocket off Mr. Park Ranger’s shirt.)

Rather good-looking upstate animal owner Jeff Taylor (right with a llama) just can’t catch a break.
Last month, his wallaroo - now famously known as Bandit - escaped Taylor’s North Chittenango, New York, petting zoo/farm. Bandit remains on the lam.
To add insult to injury, an intruder recently trespassed on Taylor’s property, says the Syracuse Post-Standard, and let goats, pigs and a peacock out of the barn.
All of the animals have since been recovered and, says Taylor, the property has been placed under surveillance.

One spotlight-seeking goat looks to have made it into the pages of the latest Hot Swiss Farmer Calendar (pertinent shot featured above). Publisher Mike Helmy tells Germany’s Spiegel Online, “We saw goats at the shooting site. They were very nice and we said, ‘We need to do something with goats.’ We just want a bit of bucolic rusticity.”

Los Angeles County authorities have denied a couple’s bid to keep 15 goats on their property. They’ll have to settle for 10 goats, two horses, a llama and an emu.
Roberto Alguero and Iris Fiorito asked for permission to keep a goat-heavy menagerie at their home near Claremont, California, in an area zoned for “light agricultural use.” Neighbors filed objections complaining about noises and the animal-smell emitting from the residence.
In a grand understatement, Fiorito tells the press, “We know we have a few more goats than we should.”
