Moxie the lion cub is getting big
Okay, so this newly-released, Father’s Day-appropriate pic of Moxie the Bronx Zoo lion cub was only taken a couple weeks after Beast Blog’s first snaps. Still, look how self-assured the little lioness is!

EXCLUSIVE: This cub prowls the Bronx
This past Sunday, BeastBlog took a little field trip to the Bronx Zoo. Rumors of a baby animal prowling the grounds proved true. There is a new lion cub and I’m proud to present these exclusive pictures, courtesy of wildlife photographer Christian Schaub.
The new cub is named Moxie, according to the AP, and will make her official debut tomorrow, on Earth Day.
Moxie was born November 6, 2008, at a weight of 3 lbs. She will likely grow to some 350 lbs. of steak, fur and fierceness. She is the first lion cub born at the Bronx zoo in 31 years. Bonus fact: her mother’s name is Sukari and her father’s name is M’wasi. Sukari, in particular, can be seen in the photos below asking our photographer to back up off her pride.
N.B. in one of the shots, lil’ lion has been caught mid-yawn. Click on any of the thumbnails for a larger image.

Picture of the Week: Wet Lion
Photos of lion expert Kevin Richardson and his playful antics have made the rounds this week, especially this one, in which it looks like Richardson and lion have been interrupted mid-tryst.
Richardson, a zoologist and animal behaviorist, has been nicknamed “The Lion Whisperer,” and you can check him out being playfully mauled on YouTube. Apparently, here, he’s whispering to a 400-pound lioness named Meg.
